"All About David's Birthday Weekend!"
Dec. 13th, 2008 05:57 pmIt's David's "All About David's Birthday Weekend!". He explained to me last week how he hates birthdays and nothing I could do could make him enjoy the thought of celebrating his birthday. I love a challenge! So - I photoshopped up a old 50s style menu - showing him all the great stuff he could choose from to do on the "All About David's Birthday Weekend!" I wrote him emails - and took his "order" for the weekend from the menu - and today we started a lovely velcro morning in bed - then breakfast at Stacks (where we are becoming 'by name' regulars) - then over to Berkeley to go book shopping. (book shopping is the most boring activity in the world for me - but this weekend is about Dave) - so four hours I sat and read almost all the way through a starwars novel while Dave hummed and smiled his way through the math books and statistics textbooks. (The story was actually very interesting - the 17 years between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of Empire Strikes Back) Then we got stuck in horrific traffic - and after stopping at Safeway for foodstuffs - we're now home prepping for a night out at Barracuda Sushi with the boyz.
My 2nd box o'freshness was delivered on Wednesday - with fennel, radicchio, mandarins, tangerines, carnival squash, leeks, kale, pink lady apples, navel oranges and two meyer lemons. So on tap for tomorrow night for David's birthday is a home cooked dinner of spinach orecchiette pasta with fresh tomatoes, prosciutto, radicchio and goat cheese and a butternut squash tangerine soup. I am loving all the research it takes to learn how to use all these new things together each week as I get the box of stuff. Dinner tomorrow night will be followed by heading to Curtis and Paul's 2008 Christmas/Chanukah/Solstice/Kwanza/OhHellLetsGetDrunk Holiday Party which should be full of all sorts of fun people and well, lots of drinking.
He hasn't admitted it yet - but I think he's having fun just choosing what we do - and going with the flow and letting me take care of the details. :) Yay!3

Date: 2008-12-14 04:44 am (UTC)Although I DO remember one year, sitting on a bus coming home from work, and suddenly being hit with the realisation that tomorrow was my birthday - and I had nothing arranged or knew of nothing being done for me...
That was a bit sad. So, I reckon secretly, David's probably LOVING the attention! :-)
