Obama is considering the appointment of the first openly gay chief of a military branch.

Having been in the Navy - this is simply unheard of - and fully awesome!

"Rum, sodomy, and the lash" was a different Navy, but yeah.

That'd be cool. (So maybe "invocation boy" was a decoy?)

I'm curious, when were you in the Navy (my dad and uncle were during WWll) and what did you think of it?

1985 till 1989 - four years aboard submarines. I hated it - it was like volunteering to go to prison.

Oh geez! I've always said that if I'd gone into the military I'd either be insane or murdered, but being in a cramped little tube underwater? Batshit crazy in five minutes.

(I turned 18 the year the ended the Viet Nam era draft--had a card but didn't even have the chance to burn it!)

He must be trying to suck up after his inaugural committee invited Rick Warren.

Do you really think it is as simple as all that?

no - I think it is anything BUT simple.

I think that assembling a cabinet in a time where many parties in America are so hungry for change is an impossibly complex task that none of can really understand.

Umm .. yes, they have *exactly* the same weight/value.

*snark*

I don't agree. I think he has at least five or six more pro-LGBT appointments/bills/presidential orders to create before I'll consider him expunged of guilt for Rick Warren.

Yes, and Tom Vilsack, the "biotech governor," for secretary of agriculture.

And you know he went to the same Roman Catholic high school as Bill O'Reilly?

and probably the same gay bathhouses as Bill O'Reilly...

Hardly. But the other (in)famous alumnus of Chaminade High School? The leather man from the original Village People.

Oh, and Mr Intrepid? Served in his local volunteer fire department and was chief of its medical squad for three years.

I've been milking my dick all morning on that info.
