David and I indulged our love of foreign film today - going to a matinee at the Clay of "I've Loved You So Long" starring Elsa Zylberstein and Kristen Scott Thomas. (The Chronicle GUSHED about Thomas' performance: Chronicle Review here)It's a beautifully told 'emotions' movie about a woman who returns to normal life after serving 15 years in prison for murder. It reminded me a lot of Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colors" trilogy (linky) in it's concentration on emotional space and the way the secrets are played to you in their entirety before the 'reveal' if you are truly paying attention. I thought it was darling and sensitive. We give it three out of four stars - David thought it was too simple; I love the trueness of the characters but also was troubled knowing the story arc from the very beginning of the film.

Afterwards we went clothes shopping (something both of us abhor) because Mervyns is going out of business and a co-worker had said if you want to zip up your wardrobe for nothing go hit their going out of business sale. She was right! I got four new shirts for just $35 - and they are all in bright new colours. One is a charcoally blue knit, one is pumpkin, one is seafoam and another striped shirt. I'll be modeling them in the next few days.

Then we came home - walked Miss Kate - then headed to dinner at Essencia. It's a Peruvian tapas place right at Gough and Hayes (across from Absinthe). We had the most amazing tuna tar tar and avocado salad - then David had the seafood stew and I had the pulled chicken stew. Now we're quietly reading and thinking about the fruitcake on the counter. :)

We are looking forward to the fashion show! :-)

(And why does "Pulled Chicken Stew" make me think that it's been prepared in a TOTALLY inappropriate fashion!!!?? LOL)

*hugs*

I always envy you California boys who can dress like real people for work. Out here on the other coast, it's still a coat and tie world.

le sigh.

FINALLY!!! Another queen that eats fruitcake. I never understood how the poor fruitcake got such a bad reputation. I love it myself but it's almost as if I had to keep that secret for fear of great ridicule. LOL
