$56.00 to fill the Mini Cooper gastank tonight. $4.66 a gallon for premium. After then taking it to the 10th street doityourself car wash it was a $60 trip. Thank god the little red car gets such great mileage. Unbelievable.

$4.82 a gallon here in town for Premium. I'm thankful for our little cars! David has a Prius, right?

Listen here mister-- what are you doing driving that tiny little foreign job? Don't you know it's your patriotic duty to drive a three-ton behemoth everywhere you go? If you don't drive, the terrorists win!!

Um...we're still at $3.89/gal for 10% ethanol blend. Yes, it's pretty bad though for everyone.

You do realize this is due, in part, to a bill President Clinton signed before leaving office now called the "Enron loophole" that allows this speculation to rake us over the coals? I just found this out last Sunday in the local rag. It's kind of sad too.

Oh well....

I think it may be slightly disingenuous to characterize the "Enron Loophole" as something promulgated by Bill Clinton. The Republican controlled Congress sent the "Enron Loophole" to Bill Clinton with a veto-proof Republican majority. It was literally slipped in the dead of night into otherwise important legislature by Senator Phil Gramm, a Republican from none other than Texas, at the behest of Ken Lay himself. I don't think I even need to point out the "six degrees" implications of that cast of characters.

Recently, the narrowly Democratic controlled Congress has pushed to remove the "Enron Loophole" through amendments to farm subsidies legislation, but Bush has promised to veto any such attempt. And just in case there's any doubt, Senator McCain has publicly defended the "Enron Loophole."

Thank you for that perspective! The commentary that I read didn't go through the specifics on how it came to be but it does provide some additional fodder for the fact what's wrong with our government as a whole.

I can only hope the hole gets closed when Obama wins.

Ouch! It's usually about $35 to fill mine up when the fuel indicator is so low that I can't measure it.

Count yourselves lucky.

Here over the pond, petrol is the equivalent of $8.80 a gallon ...

That makes a lot of folk unhappy.

I feel your pain, Robert. Our gasoline bill was $460 last month. At least you have a kick-ass public transit system to help you out!

Does the Mini require premium?

I just filled my Civic with regular for $4.119/gallon.

Same with my Harley, but its tank only hold 5 gallons. $25 bucks filled it three times in 2000.

Quite believable, actually. Gasoline has cost this much or more in many other parts of the world for a long time now.

Up here...

I filled up on Saturday in Mission (near my grandmother's home, 75 KM from Vancouver) for 139.40 per litre. Roughly, that's $5.16 US per US gallon.

I'm currently quite glad of two things: first, that I no longer own the 626 with the lovely but thirsty, high-revving and encouraging heavy right-foot exercise 24 valve V6; and second, that I only use the new car on weekends.

Of course, now I'm a weekend driver.

There's always someone who has it worse. Presently spending between $100 - $120 a week with the commute. I could save $, but that would mean not seeing my Old Man. Not an option.

I'm sure that even with my grumbling, someone else out there is spending more - like independent truckers.
