$56.00 to fill the Mini Cooper gastank tonight. $4.66 a gallon for premium. After then taking it to the 10th street doityourself car wash it was a $60 trip. Thank god the little red car gets such great mileage. Unbelievable.
Um...we're still at $3.89/gal for 10% ethanol blend. Yes, it's pretty bad though for everyone.
You do realize this is due, in part, to a bill President Clinton signed before leaving office now called the "Enron loophole" that allows this speculation to rake us over the coals? I just found this out last Sunday in the local rag. It's kind of sad too.
I think it may be slightly disingenuous to characterize the "Enron Loophole" as something promulgated by Bill Clinton. The Republican controlled Congress sent the "Enron Loophole" to Bill Clinton with a veto-proof Republican majority. It was literally slipped in the dead of night into otherwise important legislature by Senator Phil Gramm, a Republican from none other than Texas, at the behest of Ken Lay himself. I don't think I even need to point out the "six degrees" implications of that cast of characters.
Recently, the narrowly Democratic controlled Congress has pushed to remove the "Enron Loophole" through amendments to farm subsidies legislation, but Bush has promised to veto any such attempt. And just in case there's any doubt, Senator McCain has publicly defended the "Enron Loophole."
Thank you for that perspective! The commentary that I read didn't go through the specifics on how it came to be but it does provide some additional fodder for the fact what's wrong with our government as a whole.
I can only hope the hole gets closed when Obama wins.
