SO - tonight- I presented four movies to David:

  1. Mr and Mrs Jones

  2. Sex in the City the Movie

  3. Memoirs of a Geisha

  4. Steel Magnolias

I was proud of my choices - wide variety and interesting - and I'd have been happy watching any of them.

Muffin: So which movie is it Doc?
David: While you were out I looked all four of them up on the internet and Steel Magnolias has the highest rating on Rotten Tomantoes - and since I haven't seen any of these movies - I'll go with their reccomendation.
Muffin: jaw drops - hits floor. Is there such a thing as a gay man that has NOT seen Steel Magnolias? LOL! I guess I have proof!

SO after a brisk walk of Miss Kate 'round City Hall - Dr. Dave, Kateydog, and I are snuggling in for a night of Weazy and the girls in the south planning a wedding. Yay!

I have not seen Steel Magnolias.

I know this will come as NO surprise to you, but,
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Steel Magnolias, just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT.
Wheezie, that St. Bernard, the Pepto Bismal church, the armadillo cake and Sally Fields just losing it in the cemetery..... I LOVE IT and yes, I cry every time.

there were several lines from the stage play that didnt make the film, especially one about "call waiting" that when performed in New Zealand where they dont have call waiting falls particularly flat (as well as PBS humor).

I raise my hand, too; I've never seen it. My gay card was revoked years ago for complete cultural ignorance, so I'm not surprised.

Just watch "All About Eve" three times in a row. You'll have your gay card back in no time.

I haven't seen it either. However, I have seen a lot of porn. A lot. Does that make up for it?

Do you want to be a "Sip-Smart-Cocktails-and-Dish-Pop-Culture Gay", or a "Mainline-Jungle-Juice-and-F**k-a-Lot-of-Butt Gay"?

I know ... I don't want to choose, either!

Tom Skeritt at 35 was hot. After that, he forgot to hydrate.

Last night, we watched "Sex and the City" (movie) on Comcast On Demand. It was colorful to say the least, with costume changes ever six minutes. Danny, who had as is the norm, watched the series starting several seasons in then watched it slavishly, recording all the old shows, seemed underwhelmed. Or just so tired that he was having trouble watching it at the late hour of 9pm!

I saw Mr and Mrs Jones a while back. Sort of like "War of the Roses" and 'any James Bond movie' combined. Bang bang ouch ouch kiss ouch kiss.

Steel Magnolias is of course a fave of both of us, especially since we've been to Nacogdoches, where it was filmed (70 miles from where my family still lives in Lousyanna). I DO love you more than I love my luggage!

Geisha, although it's been on cable for quite a while has been a miss. It just sounds...boring.

I think Memoirs is an amazing film - considering the epic it's based on. I enjoyed it a lot.

The only Movie I've seen on that list has been Memoirs. Steel magnolias has been on my list awhile.
BTW if you and David are in the mood for a foreign film, I can reccommend The King of Masks.

Steel Magnolias I keep getting mixed up with Fried Green Tomatoes or is it Ya Ya Sisters Are Doin' it for Themselves. Or somebody got their groovy travelling pants back or something.

I've seen Memoirs of a Geisha. It was hilarious!

LOL :) of course, the card is like a mileage earner - not a 'you're in or you're out' kind of card. :)

Being a theater queen - Steel Magnolias is a classic.

I'm sure you could come up with a few things that you think all gay men should do in their lifetime - that isn't on my set of experiences. (wink)

I hope you and Fish are doing well - - and lets all send NO on 8 some good energy. it'd be good to elect Obama AND send the fundies packing (albeit prolly temporarily)

Ugh. I haven't seen it either and I have lived with a Southern Belle for over seven years now. My lack of cinematic exposure is probably some kind of glue that keeps us togethee.

Well, I'm sorry to the other posters here, but sucking dick or watching porn is NO substitute for watching Steel Magnolias - preferably the movie version and AT LEAST one stage version. The terms and conditions are quite clear on the back of your pink gay card. (Maybe you should create a picture of the official card for those without one...) Saying you haven't seen Steel Magnolias is like - well - admitting that you've never seen Mommy Dearest or Now Voyager!

While I've seen "Steel Magnolias" and "Mr and Mrs Jones", I've never considered either to be iconic Gay films. I was never a big fan of "Sex in the City", so gave the movie a pass, and I've never seen "Memoirs of a Geisha". For the record, I avoid porn, as I consider it boring.

Has my Gay card expired, or has it simply been shredded?

Clairee: I've just been to the dedication of the new children's park.
Truvy: Yeah, how did that go?
Clairee: Janice Van Meter got hit with a baseball. It was fabulous.
Truvy: Was she hurt?
Clairee: I doubt it. She got hit in the head.

Memoirs of a Geisha, visually STUNNING. Hmm, that reminds me, I need to buy that movie.

I've seen Memoirs, and memorized significant portions of Steel Magnolias over the years - it's a favourite for the cemetery scene alone.
